i made an agreement with the card company that i would pay half and they would write off the rest. That was in 2002 now I have an atty subpoena me to court for the balance. Am I out of the statue of limitations for the state of california. Credit card attorney is trying to collect on old debt i paid off with agreement?

How many years must pass until the Credit Card company can no longer attempt to collect a debt? I think I heard Suzie Ormand say 7 years, but not sure.

I heard that Texas has a right to four years of limitations on credit card debt outstanding. If the collection agency bought the account limit of four years from scratch? If not, and debts of more than four years and no payment made to him, I can delete it from my credit report? If yes, how do I do?

Some say the S.O.L. in Michigan for credit card debt collection is 4 years. Some say 6 while I’ve even heard others say 5. There must be a definitive answer.– Also, if you file an answer to a comlaint is this the only defense you need to raise in order to get the suit dismissed?

There debt collectors who have been trying to collect credit card debt from me that is over ten years old. I write letters to these companies and tell them that the statute of limitations has expired with this debt.

However, a few months later, I get another letter from a “different” debt collection agency with the same debt from the previous company. Is that what these people do…this old debt will continue to be changed from one hand to another even though the debt is very old? And, I’m assuming that this debt will continue to stay on my credit report?

My husband just recieved a call from a debt collector for a $7000 credit card debt from 7 years ago. He was also saying that the next step is court if we dont pay. We have the money to pay for the settlement but would rather not if we could get around it or if this is just a scare tactic to get there money. I have read that it is already out of the statute of limitations but really have to clue when it comes to stuff like this… any advice will be helpful.

a default judgement was ordered by the court and request for wage garnishment also. can they put aa lien on my bank accounts to collect towards a credit card debt? Anyone help me with this question.

What is the statute of limitations on collecting credit card debt in Louisiana?

In 1993 I had a opened up an account with a bank for a credit card. The bank is now out of business. For over 3 years I never recieved any statements for this card. I conatcted the bank so many times about this problem. Never to get the problem solved.

It was placed into 2 different collection agencies 5 years ago. I took it to my attorney, he tried to come up with an agreement to make payment arrangements with the bank. They never could agree on any certain payment arrangements then. I did get a letter from the bank saying that the account was closed and that I owed nothing. My attorney said to let it be and not worry.

For the past 4 weeks, I have been calls from a company that is reluctant to give me the name of the company or the name of the persons who call me. All I get is demands to pay on this bill. The people who call are not English speaking and have heavy accents.

I need to know if I will have to pay on this debt seeing it is so old. Serious answers please.

My wife and I have a 30 yr. fixed @ 5.75% w/Citimortgage. We not only pay on time, but typically make 3 additional payments/ year. With the loan market being as it is….can you negotiate with your mortgage rate?

I mean can credit card companies go to the extent of auctioning/selling off debtors underwears, toothbrushes, combs and possibly one’s shampoo and bathing soap to settle debts owed them if one doesn’t have other properties they can sieze?

I was told the statute is 10 years by a debt collector trying to get money from me on an 8 year old credit card that I may have paid off. After 7 years I shred all paperwork except for tax returns.
